Director of Data Analytics/Computer Vision Specialist
Job description:
The Director of Data Analytics will play a critical leadership role supporting eSmart’ s Grid Vision Suite of Solutions. This position will report to the Chief Analytics Officer, based in Norway, and the President of North America. The position will lead all computer vision-focused data analytics and AI activities in North America for project delivery, customer support, customer and partner interaction, and sales support. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required as you will be in customer facing scenarios to support projects, deliver thought leadership, presentations, demonstrations, and discussions. In addition to the technical responsibilities below, this role will lead innovation, bring new ideas to the table, and perform research on new technologies, especially in the field of computer vision. This position is remote, within the Central and Eastern time zones.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Own the production of innovative computer vision solutions driven by exploratory data analysis from unstructured, diverse, large datasets and the use of advanced machine learning and modern computer vision techniques
- Design, develop, evaluate, maintain and improve computer vision models and predictive/prescriptive algorithms designed for utility T&D inspection
- Initiate and support the transition from computer vision and deep learning prototypes to product features
- Work with analytics and statistical software such as SQL, R, Python, TensorFlow and others to perform analysis and interpret data and lead to optimal value extraction
- Manage analytics activities in North America while closely coordinating and collaborating with the Norway analytics team to keep up with the latest status/direction of model developments
- Mentor junior data scientists, likely remote
- Support business opportunities identification and development by providing sound data science analyses and making valuable discoveries leading to product improvement
- Communicate analytics results and support sales team for preparations of proposals, RFP, SOW, oral presentations, and product demos.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's or PhD degree (ideally in machine learning, computer science, statistics, mathematics, etc.)
- Deep understanding with state-of-the-art deep learning models for computer vision (e.g., image classification, object detection, segmentation) and Machine Learning / Data Science in general
- Hands-on technical leadership and mentoring experience
- Excellent communication skills, ability to convey deep technical content to non-technical audience
- 8+ years of programming experience, experience with Python and data analytics – especially in computer vision, familiar with at least one deep learning platform such as Caffe, Tensorflow or PyTorch
- An agile & proactive team player, ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
- Strong knowledge of statistics, machine learning, programming, computer vision, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with electric utilities, with a focus on Transmission and Distribution
- Extensive experience with computer vision and model prototyping
- Experience with AI system architecture and Model Pipeline design
- Experience in UI design for automated or user-interactive visualizations, displays or reports based on the models’ outcomes
- Consulting or client-facing experience
